San Diego natives, Mythraem<\/strong>, consiting of current members of Helsott, Ashen Earth, Orphan Feast and Conjureth, return with their second full length, “Oblivion Aeternam<\/strong><\/em>“. Bursting with melodic black metal, “Oblivion Aeternam<\/strong><\/em>” will release June 6th, 2024 on CD, 2xLP and digitally through M-Theory Audio<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond The Void<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Lyrically channeling ocultism and mysticism; musically, a chaotic blend of technicalilty and melodicism, “Oblivion Aeternam<\/strong><\/em>” is a sweet treat for those seeking melodic black metal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album is cohesive, it flows really well from one song to the next. Each song has a healthy mix of fast and mid-paced riffs. Guitar solos, I love me some guitar solos. Nearly every track features at least one. The songs are not too technical that the listener gets lost in the riffs; there are natural breaks that allow you to breath between the pummeling blasts. Panzer Division Marduk this is not, but is fast and razor sharp when it needs to be and slowing down to then build tension back up again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It brings me joy that late 90s – early 00s symphonica nd melodic black metal when Dimmu Borgir, 1349 and Old Man’s Child were in top form, is not entirely forgotten. “Oblivion Aeternam<\/strong><\/em>” offers a healthy serving of blackened and symphonic joy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My one complaint is that the album is a smidge too long at 53 minutes. There may be some who prefer these longer albums, but at my age I’m finding that 40-45 minutes seems to be the sweet spot. In my opinion, 2-3 songs could have been left off and released as a seperate EP (we need more 10 inch records!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having performed the Wacken Battle at San Diego’s metal destination, Brick By Brick, Mythraeum<\/strong> deservingly won a place at Wacken Open Air in 2022, their performance of “Terrestrial Despair” can be viewed below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
